At Van der Valk Groningen-Hoogkerk, we use the Orbisk, a device that records food waste through image recognition. This helps us reduce waste and improve the quality of our dishes. We also actively limit the amount of kitchen waste (swill).

Since 2019, we can call the hotel, as the first in the northern provinces, 100% climate-neutral, due to sustainability improvements in operations and compensation for the remaining CO2 emissions.
Sustainable energy generation with 520 solar panels
Sustainability at Van der Valk
We generate green energy with 520 solar panels. 360 panels are located on the solar carport and 160 on the roof. This way, we make optimal use of the available space and ensure a high energy yield. A sustainable solution that contributes to lower energy costs and less CO2 emissions.

At Van der Valk Hotel Groningen Hoogkerk, we are taking a significant step towards a more sustainable future. With the installation of the first ValkTop solar carport, we are now using our parking spaces not only for our guests but also for generating energy. This way, we combine comfort with innovation and actively contribute to a greener hotel experience.
The solar carport accommodates 52 parking spaces and is designed with the future in mind. Thanks to the modular system, we can easily expand when necessary. In this way, we continue to respond to developments and commit ourselves to smart and sustainable solutions within our region.
