Construction updates

We would like to keep you informed about the construction work progress per period.

Week 46

The work on the project is progressing rapidly. The concrete floor has been completely smoothed and the underfloor heating has been expertly installed. On the first floor, the hotel rooms are taking shape: the PVC flooring has been laid and the walls have been neatly wallpapered. The second floor is now in the hands of the plasterer, while on the ground floor the ceiling is being closed.

In the brasserie, the lighting has been installed, including the stylish wall lamps that create atmosphere in the space. The bar on the first floor is nearing completion and is starting to truly bring the character of the whole to life.

Week 45

The new rooms are ready and already in use! We are proud of the result, atmospheric spaces that are perfect for meetings, conferences, and parties.

The brasserie is also taking shape more and more: the bar has been installed, the tabletops, benches, and ceiling are in place. The final details are now being completed so that we can soon welcome guests to our renovated brasserie.

In addition, the LOFF treatment rooms are nearly completed. Soon, this new facility will also be fully ready to offer our guests a relaxing experience.

End of October 2025 - Construction update Van der Valk Hotel Groningen - A big step forward!

Week 44

The work at Van der Valk Groningen - Hoogkerk is progressing well! This week, significant progress has been made at various locations in the construction.

In the brasserie, the steel staircase has been installed, giving the interior more and more shape. Outside, the construction site is being further scaled down, and inside, the painters are busy painting and varnishing the ground floor.

The halls are also becoming more atmospheric: the walls are being wallpapered and the lamps are being hung. On the upper floors, the window frames are being installed on the 5th floor, and next week the window frames of the 6th floor will follow. In addition, an emergency bridge is being installed to ensure that the work can continue safely and efficiently.

Week 43

A special moment for Van der Valk Groningen: the breakthrough between the existing hotel and the new construction has been officially achieved!
The two parts of the building are now connected, an important milestone that the whole team is proud of. This step marks the beginning of the final phase, in which our new construction increasingly becomes one with the familiar hotel.

Inside, work is in full swing on the finishing touches.
The first tiles have been placed in the bathrooms, and the work is progressing well. This week is entirely dedicated to finishing the bathrooms and tiling the treatment room, where our guests will be able to relax in a cozy environment.

In the brasserie, the wall and ceiling panels are currently being installed, giving the space its warm, contemporary look. And good news: next week the doors of the new brasserie will open!

By early October 2025, Masonry completed & progress on high-rise building.

The construction is progressing rapidly. The masonry work of the low-rise building has been completed and the scaffolding of the high-rise building is also being removed, as this part is ready. In the main hall, the walls and folding walls have been installed, while the elevators are almost structurally complete. Windows have been installed up to the fourth floor, heating is operational up to the third floor, and the masonry work is completed on the sixth floor. The exterior work is nearing completion, while inside, the wallpapering and further finishing will soon begin.

The tower crane has been removed, marking an important milestone in the construction process. On Monday, the floor will be supplied for the glass installation. Wallpapering has started in the wellness area, and the staircase from the ground floor will also be installed on Monday. The work on the main hall is in its final phase, giving the whole project its definitive shape.

July 2025 Highest point & merging new hotel wing

We are proud to share that the highest point of the construction has been reached. Our new hotel wing is now fully visible, giving Van der Valk Groningen-Hoogkerk a beautiful new look.

In the coming period, we will continue to work intensively on the completion and furnishing. In addition, the new hotel wing will finally be connected to the rest of the hotel! With this expansion, we will soon offer even more space for our guests to enjoy comfort, hospitality, and experience.

A special moment to reflect on. Thanks to all involved for their dedication and craftsmanship in making this milestone possible.

March 2025
In March, we expect a significant milestone: the installation of the first floor. From that moment on, we will literally build up step by step in height!

February 2025
In February, the focus is on the preparatory work for the high-rise building. The floor is being placed and the first outlines of the ground floor are becoming visible. The hotel is really starting to take shape!

Previous Construction Updates - 2024

July 2024 - Preparations, pile driving, demolition of facade, and water drainage works.

August/September 2024 - The heathland clearance and demolition work have been completed. Currently, preparations are being made for the foundation.

September 30, 2024
The reinforcement of the foundation has been completed and the pedestals have been placed. These pedestals form an extra strong construction in the foundation, distributing the load of the overlying elements, such as walls and floors, evenly over the ground.

October 7, 2024
The installation of the crawl spaces has started. This involves laying down the sewer, rainwater drainage, air ducts, and power cables. Everything is being prepared so that the floor can be laid.

October 11, 2024
The swimming pool has been installed. This pool, which was delivered ready-made, is made of plastic and includes a bench and a small staircase. The luxury finishing will be done at a later stage of the construction.

October 30, 2024
Today, the insulated hollow core slabs were placed on the foundation. The next step is to install the edge formwork, after which next week the pouring of the key joints and a structural concrete topping of 7 cm will begin. By the end of the week, the ground floor slab will be fully structurally completed.

November 18, 2024
From week 47 until the end of the year, the site leads will be installed.

January 2025
During weeks 1 to 3, the tower crane will be installed. This crane is essential for the construction of the hotel tower. The lower parts, such as the wellness area and the meeting rooms, will be built using mobile cranes. The tower crane has a height of 40 meters, while our tower will be approximately 26 meters tall.
