Walking in The Onlanden

At a rock’s throw distance from the hotel and the city of Groningen lies the contiguous nature reserve with a size of about 3,500 football fields, known as the Onlanden. Between the stream valleys of the Eelderdiep and the Peizerdiep lies wet low moorland. This stream valley landscape consists of bushes, hedgerows, wild grasslands and moats in which water violet and kingcup blossom. The area is in rapid development.

Organisation Natural Monuments offers a beautiful walking and bicycle route for exploring the Onlanden. In addition, there are multiple excursion possibilities and the forester will tell you all about the flora and fauna.

The shed of Forester Bart

The 'forester Bart’ shed was set up by volunteers of the Organisation Natural Monuments and is a great starting point for excursions. All manner of discoveries are on display, partly from the Onlanden. There are feathers and skulls, a good map to allow you to find your bearing in the area, and you will find much about the history of the environment. Have you found something yourself? Then you can put it on display in the shed of ‘forester Bart’.
Did you make an observation? You can write it on the blackboard. This board lists all the observations made in the Onlanden. Perhaps you can spot the same thing during your visit.
The shed of ‘Forester Bart’ is opened from Wednesdays through Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00 o’clock.
